Sundar Pichai (born 10 June 1972) is an Indian-American technology executive and the Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Alphabet Inc. and its subsidiary Google.
Early Life
Sundar Pichai was born in Madurai, Tamil Nadu, India. From a young age, he displayed a strong interest in technology and logical thinking. He completed his undergraduate education at the IIT Kharagpur, where he earned a B.Tech degree in Metallurgical Engineering.[1]
He later moved to the United States for higher studies, earning:
- M.S. in Material Sciences from Stanford University[2]
- MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania[3]
Career
Pichai joined Google in 2004 and initially worked on the Google Toolbar. He led the development of Google Chrome, which went on to become the world’s most popular web browser.
Later, he oversaw major products like Android, Gmail, and Google Maps. In August 2015, he became the CEO of Google. In December 2019, he took on the additional role of CEO at Alphabet Inc..[4]
Recognition
Sundar Pichai is known for his humble leadership and long-term vision in the tech world. He has been featured in Time’s "100 Most Influential People" and Forbes' list of "World’s Most Powerful People".
