Plot

After Doctor Stephen Strange’s spell, everyone forgets that Peter Parker even exists, like, completely. Four years later Peter still protects New York, as Spider-Man… but he keeps his distance from the people he once cared about most, including MJ and Ned . The weird part is that they don’t remember him anymore, at all.

Spider-Man stops a tank that sprints through the streets and he finds out there’s a telepath, an incredibly dangerous one, steering folks around so that Mac Gargan can slip away from the Department of Damage Control (DODC). Peter figures the telepath is hunting for something called “V-Max” . Soon after that , Peter starts getting odd new powers, he’s talking organic webs, sharper senses, the whole deal. With Bruce Banner’s guidance, he builds an inhibitor to keep the changes from running wild.

Turns out the telepath is Jean Grey. She ends up using MJ , and then she attacks the DODC herself. Peter manages to beat her , and he learns she’s not just doing it for thrills—she’s trying to figure out what happened to her kidnapped sister, Sara. The DODC has been hiding the real truth about Sara’s death, all neat and tidy.

When Jean loses control, she psychically traps the city. Peter then removes the inhibitor , accepts his new abilities fully, and takes down the enemies she’s puppeting. Instead of going for a fight full of hate, he chooses kindness , and he tries to understand her better, reminding her of Aunt May’s love. During the chaos, Peter is badly injured while he protects Jean from Frank Castle.

Jean saves Peter anyway, then she leaves the city. After that, the DODC gets put under investigation, and Peter finally decides he can’t keep living like that, alone again. He even introduces himself to Ned once more, and they start reconnecting.

Post-credits scene: Ned’s “Spidey Tracker” app , for no good reason , shows Spider-Man located somewhere in outer space .

Development

Now, the run up for this fourth Spider-Man installment in the MCU started not long after Spider-Man: No Way Home (2021) did well in the marketplace. In 2023, Kevin Feige , the president of Marvel Studios, confirmed that talks were in motion for another adventure with Tom Holland back as Peter Parker. Then in 2025 Sony Pictures and Marvel Studios publicly said the plan was moving ahead, and Destin Daniel Cretton signed on to take the director seat. The screenplay work was handled by the same duo, Chris McKenna and Erik Sommers , who had written those earlier MCU Spider-Man films, and they came back to shape the script.

Casting

Tom Holland came back as Peter Parker / Spider-Man, and Zendaya returned as MJ. Jacob Batalon was also in place as Ned Leeds, like always. Sadie Sink joined too, but her role is still being kept quiet or something, in an undisclosed capacity. Jon Bernthal, Tramell Tillman, Michael Mando, and Mark Ruffalo were added in significant roles, which swells the ensemble a bit more than expected.

Filming

Principal photography started in 2025, then it kept going into 2026.
