Chaudhary Charan Singh University (CCSU), formerly known as Meerut University, is a prominent public state university located in Meerut, Uttar Pradesh, India. The university was established in 1965 with the aim of providing higher education to the students of Western Uttar Pradesh.[1] It was renamed in 1991 in honor of former Prime Minister Chaudhary Charan Singh on the occasion of its Silver Jubilee.

History

  • 1965: Established as Meerut University.
  • 1969: Introduction of research programmes like M.Phil and Ph.D.[2]
  • 1973: Commencement of postgraduate teaching departments.
  • 1980s–1990s: Growth of affiliated colleges in Arts, Science, Commerce, and Law streams.
