’’’Sagar Thakur’’’, better known by his stage name Maxtern, is an Indian youtuber and gamer. He gained fame during the Indian PUBG Mobile/BGMI gaming craze and became famous for his no-nonsense commentary, live gaming streams, and reaction videos. In 2026, he again gained mainstream fame after his appearance on the reality show The 50.
Early Life & Education
Sagar Thakur was born on 24 November 1999 in the Pipra Karauti village, Uda Kishanganj area near Madhepura/Saharsa, Bihar, India. He later shifted to New Delhi with his family. He had a humble upbringing and had limited resources during his early education years but was always passionate about his studies and technology.
He went on to do engineering, and although there are multiple sources claiming him to be an IIT graduate (including claims of being from IIT Delhi and IIT Kharagpur), the actual institute has not been officially confirmed.
Career
Maxtern started his online journey during the battle royale gaming phase in India, concentrating on PUBG Mobile and BGMI gameplay, as well as sarcastic commentary and reaction videos. He soon developed a unique online persona with his no-nonsense approach and later shifted to esports commentary, live streaming, collaborations, and vlogs. At the height of his popularity, he allegedly earned money from sponsorships, streaming, and brand collaborations while being selective about rejecting offers like some betting-related ones. In 2026, he participated as a contestant in the reality show The 50, signaling his comeback to mainstream popularity outside the gaming community.
Controversy
In the initial episodes of The 50 (which began streaming in early 2026), Maxtern revealed the backstory to Prince Narula. He said that before the 2024 fight, Elvish had transferred an unexpected ₹1 lakh to his account.
He said he was not online at the time, checked later when asked to, and was puzzled about the motive Elvish had later for collaborating, which Maxtern found emotional in light of his own mental state. He also brought up repaying the amount in two UPI transactions following a call from someone connected to Elvish (Lakshay Kaushik in conversations). Maxtern wondered about the motive behind the transfer and whether it was intended to implicate him or influence the online community. He linked it to a music video shoot where a slap scene was included at the last minute, which he first found creative but later believed contributed to the memes and impression.
These are Maxtern's public statements from the show carefully couched in phrases that reflect his claims, as the stories from both sides have conflicted.[1][2][3]
Notable Works
Maxtern is most recognized for his YouTube channel named “Maxtern,” which features gameplay videos, commentary, and reaction videos. Maxtern has also made his presence felt as an esports commentator and player, who has contributed to the world of competitive gaming. Apart from his online presence, Maxtern has gained mainstream fame as a contestant on the reality show “The 50” (2026). Maxtern’s presence in the world of gaming, online content, and reality TV shows has made him a versatile personality in the online entertainment and gaming industry of India.
