Punjab Kings, also known as PBKS, is a professional Twenty20 cricket side based at the new Chandigarh region of Punjab and play their home matches in the Indian Premier League. They have home grounds in the Maharaja Yadavindra Singh International Cricket Stadium. Apart from this, they also play their matches at Dharamshala and Indore. They have investors such as Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, Preity Zinta, and Karan Paul.

The team was formerly known as Kings XI Punjab. It changed its name to Punjab Kings in 2021. The PBKS emerged as the runner-up in the IPL in both 2014 and 2025.

History

Indian Premier League (IPL) started under the management of the BCCI in the year 2008. The Punjab-based franchise was acquired in the auction process held in the year 2008 for $76 million by a group including Mohit Burman, Ness Wadia, and Preity Zinta. This team has previously been known by the name Kings XI Punjab and signifies Punjab, Haryana, Himachal Pradesh, Jammu, and Kashmir.

In the year 2010, the league was experiencing some problems concerning ownership and was suspended from the IPL. However, the league was later re-admitted into the IPL after clearance. The league continues to participate in the IPL tournament and was renamed Punjab Kings in the year 2021.[1][2]

Home Ground

Rajasthan Royals have their home games at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur. This stadium has a seating capacity for 24,000 people. There have also been home games at Sardar Patel Stadium, Ahmedabad, and Assam Cricket Association Stadium, Guwahati for Rajasthan Royals in the 2023-2024 season.[3][4]

The new brand identity of Punjab Kings is modern and bold, which captures the essence and energy of Punjab. The colors of Punjab Kings are red and gold, which are representative of power, passion, and pride. The logo also includes a lion, which is representative of strength, courage, and tradition, while their new logo is modern and bold.[5][6][7]

Punjab Kings reached their first IPL final in 2014, finishing as runners-up, and later made their second final appearance in 2025, once again ending the tournament as runners-up.[9]
